Uganda Removes Yellow Fever Certificate Requirement for Travelers

Uganda Removes Yellow Fever Certificate Requirement for Travelers

Travel update | Safartime Journal

Travelers visiting Uganda no longer need to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate upon entry, according to an official notice issued by Uganda’s immigration authorities on October 2, 2026.

The National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC), under Uganda’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, confirmed that the certificate is no longer a mandatory entry requirement. The document has also been removed from the list of supporting documents required for Uganda’s tourist visa application.

What Has Changed?

Previously associated with travel to Uganda, the yellow fever certificate is no longer required as a mandatory entry document under the updated immigration guidance.

The change also applies to the documentation listed for Uganda’s single-entry tourist visa. Applicants must still complete the online visa application process and provide the required supporting documents.

Do Travelers Still Need a Visa?

Yes. Travelers who require a Ugandan tourist visa must still apply online through the official immigration portal.

Tourist visa fee: US$50

Application: Online

Validity for entry after approval: The visa must be used within 90 days of issuance.

Travelers should check the official portal for the latest application requirements before submitting their applications.

Is Yellow Fever Vaccination Still Recommended?

Yes. Although Uganda has removed the mandatory certificate requirement, yellow fever vaccination remains recommended for eligible travelers visiting areas where transmission is a risk.

The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies Uganda as a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Travelers should therefore consult a qualified healthcare professional or travel clinic before departure to determine the appropriate precautions for their trip.

It is important to distinguish between a document required for immigration and a vaccination recommended for public health.

What This Means for Travelers

This update may simplify travel preparations for visitors heading to Uganda. However, travelers should continue checking official immigration and health guidance before departure, as entry requirements and public health recommendations can change.
